Flock project at the Horniman Museum, SE23 3PQ

Flock Project, an idea conceived in 2018, has had a timely settle in to the Horniman Museum, in South London, from 27th May until April 2024. At a time when migration is the biggest story in the news, Flock Project quietly reflects on the memories of refugees, many of whom have overcome difficult journeys to the UK, expressed through clay and ‘birdcraft’. Just before the museum undergoes a major refurbishment, the project connects the birds on display with the historic original museum labels which highlights migration routes found in nature. Please visit this wonderful Museum in Forest Hill. To see more on the project please visit www.flockproject.co.uk

New lamp collaboration with Porta Romana

From early 2022 I have been developing ideas for the production of lamps with UK lighting company Porta Romana. My wall Constellation series was the source of inspiration, as a library of forms that draw on nature’s diverse designs. Fir table lamp and Luna wall light are the first pieces and are available in ‘pepper’ and ‘blanched plaster’ finishes and have been launched at London Design Festival 2023.

Welcoming in the New Year

A restorative rest is always needed but I’m glad to be back in the studio. Happy New Year!

In Conversation with the inspirational Roksanda

On a blustery November evening we gathered in the glistening glamour of Roksanda’s Mount Street shop for an ‘In Converstion’ evening with myself, Roksanda and design and arts writer Emily Steer. It was such a special event and I loved the opportunity to talk about my ideas and processes. Thank you to Roksanda and her wonderful team.

House and Elle Decoration UK

During London Design Festival 2022, I exhibited a collection of hands, a new pair of wall lights and a new ceramic sculpture created for a special interiors project called House for curator Laura Fulmine, in collaboration with Elle Decoration UK and featuring a host of talented designers and artists. The venue is Mah Gallery at 2B Vyner Street, London E2.

Gardeshop Los Angeles

At last, having sold my ceramics through the stunning design store Garde since 2019, I have my first chance to visit, and it is even more impressive than I expected. It was so lovely to meet the team. To be found at 7410 Beverly Boulevard, LA.

An Interesting Mix at Willer Gallery, London

From 29th November I am excited to be showing my sculptural ceramic forms at one of the most influential galleries in the UK. Rebecca Willer has curated ‘An Interesting Mix’ at Willer Gallery, 12–14 Holland Street, Kensington, London W8 4LT.

It is a show of 3 collections by me, Matt Mitchell and Rui Ribeiro, reflecting each artist’s relationship to sculptural form, with pieces that both successfully stand on their own and also speak to each other across cultures and time.

50 Vyner Street

I’ve been working with Laura Fulmine since early 2019 and her company Modern Art Hire has grown to become the go-too for inspiring and original objects and interiors. It is wonderful, as a maker, to be able to trust her unique vision and see where she places my work.

Laura and Sophie Pearce of Béton Brut have now acquired an enormous 5500ft gallery space at 50 Vyner Street, London E2, with which to explore their combined creative curation.

The Art of Making

Laura Fulmine, the creator of Modern Art Hire, has curated a special show of makers in ceramics, wood and fibre at Yorkton Workshops. My summer project was Constellation wall collection and it is shown for the first time alongside some of my favourite artists and designers.

Eye of the Collector

I am thrilled to be included in a new art fair situated in the stunning location of Two Temple Place. It is the brainchild of art consultant and curator Nazy Vassegh and is truly the Eye of the Collector.

Dallas, Texas

I love Garde, the furniture gallery in Los Angeles, that plucked me from obscurity and displayed my ceramics in one of the most directional, minimal stores amongst designers I feel blessed to share space with. The pioneering Scotti and John have now opened a stunning new showroom in Dallas and I am honoured to be included.

WSJ Gallery, Bruton

Sitting on the high street in the village of Bruton is Wilson Stephens and Jones’ new gallery, attracting their West London contacts to the beautiful rolling countryside. Here’s hoping the sophisticated locals can see how well my large sculptural forms go with their exposed beams. Photo by Rae.

Growing up

A large portion of early 2021 was spent experimenting with larger forms, growing the pieces over and above my 30cm threshold. Not everything worked, however this process did lead to some big steps forward for me, particularly my Ripple Spine vessels. They have now left the studio and it was an emotional farewell.
